Medication Management: Integrating multiple skills for optimal results.
My patients are all busy adults who want someone who can diagnose their problem and prescribe a treatment plan that will resolve their issues fast. There is, however, a lot of negative connotation around quick fixes.
It takes years of experience to make a quick diagnosis.
There’s much more to medication management than simply writing prescriptions. It’s an extremely complex process that involves utilizing all of the training, knowledge and experience I have in psychiatry. By integrating multiple skills, I’m able to make the best judgment as to which medications will be the most effective in treating your condition.
There are many factors to consider.
I need to be aware of drug interactions, potential side effects, precautions, maximum dosages, adjusting meds, etc. This can be especially complicated when prescribing more than one medication. I also want to know my patients’ expectations so I can give them an honest assessment as to what extent those expectations will be realized.
What works for one patient may not work for another.
In order to determine which medication(s) will have the best effect for you, I do a complete history and evaluation, after which I’m able to recommend a treatment plan that will greatly relieve your symptoms.
You may feel better before meds.
It’s very important that you feel comfortable with your doctor. Otherwise, you’re less likely to follow his or her recommendations. Many of my patients start feeling relief at the beginning of our first session, whether it’s in my office, on the phone or on a video chat. I want you to know that I’m empathetic to what you’re going through and will make every effort to help you get past the issue so you can start leading a much more normal life.
